Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite First Sentences

It’s been a while, and I’m sorry for the absence. Life is just kicking my tush lately, and time seems to be slipping through my fingers too quickly. In any case, it’s T5W, and today, I’m listing five first sentences that have pulled me in for a whirlwind of a ride.

1. Beyond What is Given by Rebecca Yarros

What exactly is the protocol for leaving tampons in a guy’s bathroom?

2. The Air He Breathes by Brittainy C. Cherry

Each morning I read love letters written for another woman.

***Disclaimer: This is actually the first line of the first chapter. This book has a prologue, which set up the stage for the rest of the book, but it was this line that really got me hooked.

3. A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole

There were exactly four moments that defined my life. This was the first.

***Note: Yes, I know it’s supposed to be the first sentence, but these need to be taken together in order to work.

4. The Fall Up by Aly Martinez

It was raining. Isn’t that the way all great love stories start? And also usually end?

***Note: Again, these were just too good together.

5. The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay

Dying really isn’t so bad after you’re done it once.

***Disclaimer: This book has a prologue but this is the first line of the first chapter.
